San Angelo Man Takes Plea Deal for Stealing Pistol

SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo man has taken a plea deal for stealing a pistol.

Jakota Ramirez, 19, of San Angelo, accepted a plea deal for theft of a firearm.

According to court documents, on Nov. 9, 2024, a DPS Trooper performed a traffic stop on a vehicle for a moving violation. During the course of the traffic stop, a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted after the trooper smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

The trooper informed the occupants that they were to exit the vehicle and stand along the roadway. The passenger, identified as Jakota Ramirez, exited and walked to the back of the vehicle as instructed. As he was approaching the rear of the vehicle, Ramirez began running from the stop.

Ramirez was located by San Angelo police officers and was found to be in possession of a Glock 19 pistol. The serial number on the firearm was checked, and the San Angelo Police Department determined the gun was stolen.

Ramirez was arrested for several misdemeanor charges and outstanding warrants.

On Nov. 12, 2024, the trooper contacted the San Angelo Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division regarding the recovered firearm. He was sent a copy of the original San Angelo Police Department case jacket, which was reviewed. In the report, Ramirez was listed as a suspect that stole the firearm from the original victim.

The original victim was contacted and wanted to pursue criminal charges against Ramirez.

In exchange for a guilty plea, Ramirez has agreed to be sentenced to two years deferred adjudication. The judge has not yet signed the plea agreement.

OMG.  He must have had a public defender.  Only 2 years and it's deferred.  Wakeup San Angelo!  This is why so many criminals walk our streets.  We need someone in that office, willing to prosecute.  What a joke.

Let's see,  1 - they were about to be searched for smoking pot. 2 - He ran from the police. 3 - He was caught with a stolen pistol that he was already suspected of stealing. 4 - He was arrested for several misdemeanor charges. 5 - and had outstanding warrants.  San Angelo offers him 2 years deferred adjudication. "WHAT A JOKE" is the perfect description. This guy probably laughed all the way home. Yep, I'm sure the police will never hear from him again!
