UPDATE: Report of Multiple Shooting Victims Believed to be 'Swatting' Incident

SAN ANGELO, TX — A report of multiple shooting victims Monday in San Angelo proved to be false, according to an officer with the San Angelo Police Department.

Numerous police officers responded to a residence on Pecan Street at about 2 p.m. Monday after a call reporting there were multiple shooting victims.

Seven police vehicles, two ambulances and three fire department trucks were observed at the scene.

A drone was deployed, and officers were seen approaching a house with a riot shield.

When the officers made contact with the residents, it was determined that the call was false, the officer stated.

"This has all the looks of a swatting-type incident," he said. "Thankfully, it ended well and there were no shooting victims."

To get "swatted" means to be the target of a prank where someone makes a false emergency call to law enforcement, often falsely reporting a serious crime like a shooting or hostage situation, to a person's home, resulting in a potentially dangerous response from heavily armed police.

Charges will be filed if the person who made the false call is identified, he said.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
