San Angelo Man Arrested for Alleged Accidental Shooting at Apartment Complex

SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo man has been arrested after allegedly shooting a man while cleaning a gun.

Brandon Tignor, 25, of San Angelo, has been arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to court documents, on March 29, 2025, the investigator was contacted by a sergeant with the San Angelo Police Department informing them of a shooting that had taken place. The sergeant said that there was a male victim who was shot in the legs at the Greenwood Apartments, located at 1516 Greenwood Street in San Angelo. The victim was being transported via ambulance to Shannon Medical Center.

The investigator met with the victim at Shannon Hospital, and the victim was observed to be bleeding from both of his legs.

The sergeant told the investigator that the suspect, identified as Brandon Tignor, had been located on the 1800 block of Colorado Street. Tignor had been detained, and the weapon used in the assault was inside of the residence.

When the investigator responded to the 1800 block of Colorado Street, Tignor made a statement that he was cleaning the gun, and it just went off. Tignor also said the gun was inside the residence.

The owner of the residence on Colorado Street was contacted and gave consent to search the residence for the weapon. The gun was found between the mattresses of a bed inside one of the bedrooms. The firearm was a black 9mm Taurus handgun, and it did not have a magazine or any ammunition in it.

The investigator then responded to the scene of the shooting and observed blood droplets leading out of the room and into a nearby stairwell. A pool of blood was also seen on the floor of the apartment.

Tignor was interviewed and waived his Miranda warning to speak about the incident. Tignor stated that he lived in the apartment at the Greenwood Apartments and had gone to a different residence at the complex. Tignor was accompanied by the victim and four other people.

Tignor was sitting on the couch, and the victim was standing next to a table in the living room. Tignor was attempting to clean his gun, and he asked one of the individuals in the apartment to retrieve a gun cleaning kit. Then, Tignor took out the magazine of the weapon and set it on the couch next to him, but he left a round of ammunition in the chamber.

As Tignor was cleaning the gun, it went off and struck the victim in the leg. He left the apartment and went to the residence on Colorado Street and hid the gun between the mattresses. Tignor said that he left the magazine on the couch.

Tignor was arrested on March 29, 2025, and was released two days later on $25,000 bond.
