Suspect Barricades Himself in Eden Home, Found With Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

EDEN, TX – A man suspected in a March 11 shooting in Schertz barricaded himself inside a residence in Eden on Thursday night before being found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

Police identified the man as Stephen Patterson, 41, who had multiple outstanding felony warrants. He was wanted in connection with a shooting that left a man injured following an altercation between two residents in Schertz, which is just outside of San Antonio.

On March 20, after several hours of negotiations, officers said they found Patterson injured inside the home from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, but his current condition is unknown, police said.

The Schertz Police Department thanked Concho County Sheriff Brent Frazier, the Concho County Sheriff’s Department, and the Texas Department of Public Safety for their assistance in Patterson’s apprehension. No law enforcement officers or civilians were injured during the incident.

Meanwhile, the victim of the March 11 shooting was initially released from the hospital but later suffered medical complications, leading to his readmission. He remains hospitalized, and the case is still under investigation.
