SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo man has been indicted for threatening a woman with a sword.
Saul Arellano, 50, of San Angelo, was indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to court documents, on Dec. 3, 2024, two San Angelo police officers responded to the 2500 block of Abilene Street regarding a disturbance. When they arrived at the scene, the officers located the defendant, identified as Saul Arellano, running away from them in the east alleyway. He ran about 75 feet from the officers before he stopped.
The officers said that Arellano was armed with a sword, which he swung in the air. He screamed at the officer, who had drawn his service weapon, before giving up and putting the sword down.
The investigator spoke with the victim, who stated Arellano was mad and was yelling at her. He had the sword in hand and began making threats to kill the victim while making a stabbing motion towards her.
A witness who was passing by observed Arellano with a sword, approximately 3 feet in length, and he was yelling at the victim. He also said Arellano ran away when he saw the police.
Arellano refused to speak with the investigator when given a chance.
Arellano was arrested on Dec. 3, 2024, and has remained an inmate since being held on a $100,000 bond.
