Sheriff’s Office: Scammers Are At It Again!

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about two new scams targeting locals, including one where scammers pose as law enforcement demanding payment.

In the first scheme, fraudsters claim to be with the Tom Green County Jail and tell victims their loved one will be released if they pay for an ankle monitor. The requested amounts range from $2,000 to $9,000. Information from the sheriff's office states that the jail will not call family members for payment.

The second scam involves text messages falsely stating the recipient owes an unpaid toll bill. Authorities advise residents not to click any links or send payments, as toll companies do not collect fees via text.
