San Angelo Man Indicted for Online Solicitation of a Teenager

SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo man has been indicted for attempting to solicit a child online for sex.

Rene Herrera, 41, of San Angelo, has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for online solicitation of a minor.

According to court documents, on Aug. 23, 2024, the Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigations Division conducted an online solicitation investigation in Tom Green County. A special agent posed as a minor and established an undercover profile using an online social media sit/chat platform.

A suspect profile, titled “Wannaf**k38," contacted the special agent’s undercover profile and was under the impression that the undercover profile belonged to a minor. The suspect continued communication and elevated talks to express the intent to engage in sexual contact.

The suspect then overtly acted on this intent by traveling to a prearranged location at an agreed upon time for the purpose of sexual contact. When the suspect arrived at the location, he was taken into custody.

The same day, a special agent conducted a Custodial Mirandized interview with Herrera. In the interview, Herrera allegedly stated that he believed he was meeting a 16-year-old male child for oral sex and allegedly admitted to having sexual intercourse with five other 16-year-old male children prior to that day.

Herrera was arrested on Aug. 23, 2024, and was released on Aug. 25, 2024, on $35,000 bond.
