Fugitive Accused of Child Sexual Assault Arrested in Presidio County After Years on the Run

PRESIDIO, TX — A man wanted for continuous sexual assault of a child in Ector County was arrested in Presidio County this weekend after evading authorities for seven years.

Gabriel Mendoza, who fled to Mexico in 2018, was located in Candelaria following a tip received by Presidio County Sheriff’s Deputies. Mendoza was taken into custody without incident.

Deputies confirmed that Mendoza will be transferred to the U.S. Marshals Service, which will handle his extradition to Ector County for processing and prosecution.

The arrest concludes a years-long search for Mendoza, who had been a fugitive since the charges were filed.
