Motorcyclist Dies After Falling from Downtown Abilene Parking Garage

 

ABILENE, TX – A 28-year-old motorcyclist died after falling from the top level of a downtown Abilene parking garage, according to the Abilene Police Department.

Alexander Shute, who was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base, died Sunday, February 23, 2025, at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. His next of kin has been notified.

Police responded to the incident at around 1:15 p.m. at the intersection of Pine Street and North 4th Street. Officers found Shute lying on the roadway after reportedly going over the top-level retaining wall of the First Financial Bank Building parking garage.

Shute had been with four other riders at the time of the incident. The riders told police they had gone to the garage to take photos and videos.

The parking garage is open to the public on weekday evenings and weekends. No citations have been issued, and the investigation is ongoing by the Abilene Police Department’s Traffic Division.
