Stolen Cattle Found Dead in Abandoned Trailer in Houston County

CROCKETT, TX – Eight stolen Angus cattle were found dead inside an abandoned trailer on Highway 19 South in Houston County, authorities said.

According to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call about the trailer on Jan. 29. Upon arrival, officers discovered 14 large Angus cattle inside the 20-foot trailer, with eight already deceased. Investigators determined the cattle had been stolen, and an investigation into livestock theft and animal cruelty is ongoing.

The owner has been notified, and the sheriff’s office is working with Special Ranger Bobbitt of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) to resolve the case.

Officials thanked local cowboys Ronnie Goolsby and Klay Currie, along with the Texas Department of Transportation, for assisting in moving the surviving cattle and disposing of the dead animals.

Sheriff Zak Benge stated that authorities will pursue those responsible and hold them accountable.
