Murder Suspect Wanted in El Salvador Arrested in Odessa Traffic Stop

ODESSA, TX – A man wanted for murder in El Salvador was arrested early Thursday morning after an Odessa Police Department traffic stop led to the discovery of an outstanding warrant.

At around 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 30, OPD Sergeant Jaime Aguirre stopped a white Chevrolet Kodiak towing a trailer near Yukon and Dixie due to an expired registration. A computer check confirmed the expired tag, prompting officers to pull over the vehicle.

The driver, identified as 37-year-old Jesus Alberto Villegas Monteagudo, was found to have an active murder warrant from El Salvador.

Monteagudo was arrested for being a fugitive from justice and taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center, where he awaits extradition.
