SAN ANGELO, TX — In a heart-stopping manhunt that captivated local residents, law enforcement pursued a suspect to a room at the La Quinta Inn, located at 2307 Loop 306, on Wednesday afternoon, January 29, 2025. The San Angelo Police Department described the ordeal as one that escalated quickly before the suspect's apprehension.
The drama unfolded after an anonymous tip led police on a wild goose chase through the southwest side of the city. Initially, their search yielded no results. However, just as officers were about to call off the search, they received urgent reports that the suspect was recklessly driving his minivan the wrong way down the one-way Loop 306 access road, before making a daring escape into a room at the La Quinta Inn.
With the cooperation of the room's occupant, police swiftly entered the hotel room where they arrested the suspect without incident. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, is expected to appear on the Tom Green County jail roster soon, where all charges will be detailed.
According to police at the scene, the suspect, Thomas Bonner, 37, was sought for numerous outstanding warrants issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Among those warrants were motions to revoke probation for possession of drugs, evading arrest, and a grand jury indictment for theft of property valued at least than $2,500 with two previous convictions. Today, DPS added three more charges: Reckless driving, theft of property valued between $100 and $750, and evading arrest with a previous conviction. His bond is set at $30,500.
