Gun Falls from Guardian’s Holster During Student Fight at Big Spring Junior High

BIG SPRING, TX – A fight between two Big Spring Junior High students led to a staff member’s firearm accidentally falling from its holster, the Big Spring Independent School District confirmed.

The incident occurred when a staff member, authorized under the district’s Guardian Program to carry a firearm for school safety, intervened to break up the altercation. During the intervention, the firearm became dislodged from its holster and fell to the ground. Another staff member quickly retrieved the gun and returned it to the Guardian.

The Guardian Program, approved by the Big Spring ISD Board of Trustees in 2018, allows trained school employees to carry firearms on campus to enhance safety.

In a statement, Big Spring ISD said the situation was quickly handled, and no one was harmed. The district stated that the employee involved is authorized to carry a firearm as part of the program.
