BIG SPRING, TX — A man was found fatally shot in a truck parked at a KFC in Big Spring on January 5, prompting a multi-agency investigation that led to an arrest the following day.

Dustin Aaron Gutierrez, 30, was discovered in a Dodge pickup at the restaurant on the 1700 block of South Gregg Street at around 2:35 p.m. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency responders transported him to Scenic Mountain Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

Investigators identified a suspect and vehicle with assistance from multiple agencies, including the Howard County Sheriff’s Department, Sweetwater Police Department, Texas DPS Rangers Division, and others.

On January 6 at 1:15 p.m., officers stopped the suspect’s vehicle in Comanche County.

The suspect, identified as Ruben Drake Silva, 42, was arrested on a warrant for murder. Detectives believe the killing was a random act of violence, with no known connection between Silva and Gutierrez.
