NEW ORLEANS, LA – A man intentionally drove a pickup truck into a crowd in New Orleans’ French Quarter early New Year’s Day, killing 10 people and injuring at least 30 others, according to police.
The suspect was killed in a shootout with officers after the attack.
This happened around 3 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Canal and Bourbon streets, disrupting New Year’s celebrations in the city.
New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said the attack involved more than just a vehicular assault, as the suspect also shot and injured two police officers, who are now in stable condition. Kirkpatrick said that the act was not related to impaired driving, calling it a “complex and serious” situation.
Authorities are investigating the possibility of improvised explosive devices being present at the scene, the FBI reported, adding that the motive is unclear.
Most of the victims are believed to be local residents.
The incident came hours before the Sugar Bowl game between Notre Dame and the University of Georgia, a major New Year’s event drawing thousands of visitors to New Orleans.
The investigation is ongoing.

PermalinkJust a pattern I recognized when dealing with the Western converts of the Tibetan Buddhist community years ago. They were always militantly liberal, despite the Tibetans themselves not being so, and it took me a while to figure out who was pushing what interests.
Then the genociding and the murdering and the raping were happening, and no one saw it and kept defending Israel no matter what. And it was like Jerry Lewis from Bizarro World with the Bibi and the pagers and the "somebody stole my house!"
