SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo man has been indicted for taking drugs into the Tom Green County Jail.
Daniel Hernandez, 31, of San Angelo, was indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for possession of a controlled substance and prohibited substance or item inside a correctional facility.
According to court documents, on Sept. 29, 2024, the investigator was traveling northbound on South Bell Street and observed a Chevy Trailblazer that was traveling southbound without a front license plate.
After initiating a traffic stop, the officer approached the vehicle and identified the driver as Hernandez. He also identified the other two individuals in the vehicle. A strong smell of marijuana was coming from the vehicle, the officer noted.
A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, and a bag with a white crystal substance was found between the driver seat and the center console. Hernandez was placed under arrest. A field narcotics test was performed on the substance, and it came back positive for the presence of methamphetamine. The weight of the methamphetamine was 6.35 grams with packaging.
Hernandez was transported to the Tom Green County Jail. There, the investigator requested a strip search of Hernandez due to the possibility of him having narcotics on his person. The search revealed two additional bags located "in his genital area." One of the bags weighed .87 grams and the other weighed .651 grams. Both bags were tested and returned positive results for meth.
Hernandez was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and prohibited substance or item inside a correctional facility on Sept. 29, 2024, and was released the same day on $45,000 bond. He is next due in court on Jan. 15, 2025.
