Texas Man Allegedly Used Scissors in Black Friday Target Bathroom Attack

DALLAS, TX — A Texas man is accused of stabbing a father in the neck with scissors inside a Target bathroom on Black Friday after allegedly saying, “Today, I’m going to commit a crime,” according to authorities.

The suspect, Robert Weldon Fields, 43, was arrested Monday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the attack on Angel Perez Luna, 28, according to the Dallas Police Department. Fields reportedly fled the scene after the Nov. 29 incident but was apprehended three days later at a DART rail station.

Surveillance footage showed Fields entering the men’s restroom at the Target on South Haskell Avenue around 10:34 a.m. and leaving at 11:19 a.m., police said. A witness who entered the bathroom around 11 a.m. claimed to hear Fields say he was planning to commit a crime. Shortly after, Perez Luna entered the bathroom and was attacked.

Perez Luna told police that Fields, who appeared to be mumbling to himself while seated on a sink, attacked him as he walked out of the restroom. The victim managed to leave the restroom but collapsed just outside the door. First responders transported Perez Luna to Baylor Scott & White Hospital, where he underwent surgery and remains in critical condition, according to his partner, Nicole Hernandez.

Fields denied involvement in the attack during a police interview, reportedly saying, “If I had stabbed him, he would be dead.” Officers noted, however, that Fields was wearing the same clothing seen in the surveillance footage at the time of his arrest.

Fields is being held in Dallas County Jail on a $75,000 bond.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to cover Perez Luna’s medical expenses.
