Man Indicted for Severely Injuring Fellow Inmate in Tom Green County Jail

 

SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo man has been indicted for assaulting an inmate in the Tom Green County Jail.

Elias Galaviz, 28, was indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury for assaulting an inmate in the Tom Green County Jail.

According to court documents, on Sept. 19, 2024, video surveillance showed the victim, the defendant, identified as Galaviz, and two co-defendants that were incarcerated in the Tom Green County Jail in Cellblock M5. The victim was asleep in his bunk when he was confronted by Galaviz and two other inmates about owing someone money, forcing the victim to leave the cellblock.

Then, Galaviz and the two other inmates struck the victim in the head and face with closed fists and kicked him. The attack broke the victim’s mandible, and he also had a blowout fracture of the right orbit, a fractured nasal septum, and fractured nasal bones which required medical and surgical treatment.

Galaviz was indicted in October 2024 and is next due in court on Dec. 17, 2024.
