SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo man has been arrested for assaulting a woman with a knife.
Kelby Jones, 33, of San Angelo, has been arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after threatening a woman with a folding knife.
According to court documents, on Nov. 24, 2024, San Angelo police responded to a residence regarding an assault. The victim and Jones are currently going through a divorce, and when the victim arrived with diapers for a child, she said she was met with a confrontation from Jones.
She said Jones was upset she had become romantically involved with another individual, which made him jealous.
The investigator then learned from the victim that she wanted to see the child, and Jones would not let her inside the house. When the victim was trying to force her way into the house, her foot became wedged under the door. Then, Jones reportedly pushed and kicked the victim, causing her to fall down.
A short time after the victim was pushed, she said Jones took her cell phone from her hand. The victim got up and pursued Jones in an attempt to get her phone back. A scuffle over the phone ensued, which involved the victim having her wrists twisted, she said.
Jones reportedly continued to push the victim down and eventually into wooden furniture, causing her pain and visible injuries. Jones then allegedly put the victim into a chokehold before throwing her to the ground again.
Then, Jones brandished a bone and silver folding knife and held it close to the victim’s throat, she said.
After they continued fighting for the phone, a child walked into the room, and Jones left the residence at that point.
Jones was located and interviewed by the investigator. Jones waived his Miranda Rights and initially denied the allegation but would later admit to using a deadly weapon, which he described as a bone-handled folding knife. He also allegedly admitted to the physical altercation where he pushed the victim down and put her in a “restraint."
Jones was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on Nov. 24, 2024, and was released two days later.
