Scam Targeting Oil Field and Gas Supply Businesses in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX - The San Angelo Police Department is warning local oil field and gas supply businesses about a scam involving fraudulent credit card transactions and stolen funds.

According to police, an individual posing as a legitimate buyer has been using multiple stolen credit cards to make purchases. After the transactions are completed, the cards are declined due to insufficient funds, leaving businesses at a loss. The scammer typically arranges to pick up goods using a truck and trailer but never delivers payment.

Authorities report that the scammer often uses different phone numbers to avoid detection and speaks with a heavy accent, making it difficult to verify their identity. Businesses are advised to exercise caution, verify the legitimacy of transactions, and ensure they know the identity of buyers to avoid falling victim.

The police are urging businesses in the affected sectors to remain vigilant and take extra precautions to protect their operations.
