Dallas Couple Sues Bar After Fiery Cocktail Ignites, Leaving Them with Disfiguring Burns

DALLAS, TX - A Dallas couple suffered life-altering injuries when a flaming cocktail erupted in their faces at a local bar, leading them to file a lawsuit claiming negligence.

Abbi Hance-Briscoe and Dustin “Dutty” Johnson were burned on their arms, necks, and faces after a bartender allegedly added excessive Everclear to a drink, igniting a fire that engulfed them both.

This happened on August 26 at Twisted Trick, a now-closed bar in Cedar Springs. The couple claims they went to the bar for a casual date night, only to experience a traumatic accident when Johnson’s “Flaming Pineapple” drink burst into flames. According to the lawsuit, the bartender poured more Everclear than usual into the drink before lighting it with a torch, causing the fire to spread uncontrollably.

Both were rushed to Parkland Hospital’s burn unit, with Hance-Briscoe undergoing multiple surgeries, including skin grafts, and facing potential permanent nerve damage. Johnson, though released sooner, continues to require treatment for his injuries.

The couple is now seeking damages in court, citing negligence, and hopes the case will prompt stricter safety measures for bars serving flaming cocktails. A community fundraiser has been launched to support their recovery, as they face extensive medical expenses and long-term rehabilitation.

“We want to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else,” Hance-Briscoe said.
