JAL, NM - Authorities in Jal, New Mexico, have uncovered evidence of 10 to 20 human skulls, a discovery potentially connected to a 2019 missing person case, according to the Lea County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation began after a Jal resident reported witnessing a man, identified as Cecil Villanueva, allegedly discarding what appeared to be human bones while accepting a ride. Detectives found bone fragments at the scene, later confirmed as human remains by a pathologist.
Upon searching Villanueva’s residence, additional fragments, including parts of a skull and jawbone, were uncovered. A forensic anthropologist’s examination determined the site could contain remnants of up to 20 human skulls. The remains have since been transported to Albuquerque for further analysis and identification.
Officials believe the discovery may be linked to Angela McManes, who vanished from the same area in 2019. The Lea County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information to contact them at (575) 396-3611 or Lea County Crime Stoppers at (757) 393-8005.
