SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo man has been arrested for trying to set a house on fire.
Steven Beach, 46, has been arrested for Arson after allegedly setting several fires inside a residence on Lake Nasworthy.
According to court documents, on September 22, 2024, around 2:10 a.m., the San Angelo Fire Department, San Angelo Police Department, and San Angelo EMS were dispatched to a residence on the 1600 block of Canal Road regarding a structure fire.
The fire was extinguished by the San Angelo Fire Department and the San Angelo Fire Marshal’s Office conducted an investigation.
During that investigation, it was learned that forced entry was made through the front and back doors of the residence. Investigators personally inspected the residence and found the several fires were set in different rooms of the residence and accelerants to spread the fire were also found throughout.
The containers of accelerant included a five-gallon container of Methyl Ethyl Ketone, a container of Hi-Solid Polyurethane, wood stain, and canisters of carburetor cleaner.
Multiple points of origin for the fire were located in the kitchen, where a cigarette lighter was discovered, and other separate ones in the den of the residence. The investigator concluded there was no way the fire in the kitchen could have started the fire in the living room or vice versa.
In the living room, one of the possible points of origin was a candle that had cloth material, possible a blanket or towel, on it, and a second origin point involved a paper of some type and a open flame.
There was evidence that by lining up the wood, cloth, and accelerants, the defendant, identified as Beach, allegedly attempted to spread the fire into other rooms.
In an interview with Beach, he stated that he may have been cooking a roast during the day and left the house around 1:30 p.m. to go to his son’s residence for the rest of the day.
The investigator has good reason to believe that Beach intentionally started multiple fires inside the residence on Canal Road.
Beach was arrested on October 29, 2024, and was released on October 30, 2024, on $70,000 bond.
