SAN ANGELO, TX — Surveillance footage captured a violent encounter at a San Angelo construction site where a 24-year-old man allegedly attacked a 75-year-old worker, striking him multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Juan Rodriguez, 24, of San Angelo, has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for injury to an elderly Individual.
According to court documents, on July 25, 2024, at 1:20 p.m., a San Angelo police officer was dispatched to the 900 block of East 39th Street in reference to an assault. The officer made contact with the victim and learned that he had been assaulted by the defendant, identified as Rodriguez.
The victim stated he was working on a residence that was under construction when he observed Rodriguez enter the house and begin destroying construction materials. The victim walked towards Rodriguez who had already exited the home. He began cursing and yelling at the victim as the victim began to walk away.
About two minutes later, the victim was sitting on the porch when Rodriguez walked up to him and began aggressively attacking him. Rodriguez punched the victim in the face, ribs, and arms. The attack continued into the doorway of the residence until Rodriguez ran back to his vehicle and fled the scene.
The investigator personally reviewed surveillance footage of the entire incident. The victim was even interviewed a second time, and his statement was still consistent with his first statement. Photos of the victim were viewed, and they showed bruising on his arms, and hands, and he had a small laceration on the left side of his face.
Due to the victim being 75 years old, Rodriguez was charged with injury to an elderly individual. He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance when he was arrested on August 3, 2024.
Rodriguez is next due in court on November 12, 2024.
