SAN ANGELO, TX — A New Mexico man who shot his father has been indicted in San Angelo.

Michael Pacheco, 37, of Albuquerque, New Mexico has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for aggravated assault of a date/family/household member with a weapon after shooting his father.

According to court documents, on July 14, 2024, around 7:10 p.m., several Tom Green County law enforcement agencies and San Angelo first responders were dispatched to the 800 block of South US Highway 87 in reference to a shooting victim. The victim was located in the roadway with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was transported to Shannon Medical Center and immediately underwent surgery.

A witness who was driving by said he observed the victim, who was identified as the defendant’s father, attempting to flag down vehicles as he stumbled away from a black Ford Mustang passenger car on the access road.

While the witness was rendering aid to the victim, the only thing the victim said was he had been shot. The witness then stated he observed a woman, identified as Gloria Jaramillo, and a man, identified as Michael Pacheco, fleeing into a wooded area.

A search of the area for Jaramillo and Pacheco was conducted but no one was located at the time.

On July 15, 2024, the investigator continued processing the Ford Mustang for evidence and a spend .25 auto bullet casing was located under the driver’s seat.

That same day, the victim was interviewed by an investigator, and he identified Pacheco as his son as the person who shot him. The victim said that his son had an active warrant out of New Mexico for Homicide, and he was attempting to get his son to turn himself in to law enforcement. Then, a physical altercation occurred, and Pacheco struck the victim in the head with a handgun before shooting him in the abdomen.

Late that day, a call for service was received from the 700 block of Fairview School Road and Jaramillo was taken into custody during a foot chase.

After a multi-hour-long manhunt, Pacheco was located and taken into custody. He was in possession of a .25 caliber “Phoenix Arms” handgun which had similar ammunition in the magazine as the casing found under the driver’s seat of the Ford Mustang.

Investigators interviewed Pacheco who verbally waived his Miranda Rights. He allegedly admitted to being in a physical altercation with his father when he would not let him out of the vehicle. Pacheco then said he took the handgun out of his front pocket and struck the victim with the gun then allegedly said he shot the victim.

Pacheco told Jaramillo to flee the scene on foot to “avoid all this."
