SAN ANGELO, TX— The alleged girlfriend involved in the homicide on South David Street has been arrested.
Mollie Whitfield, 29, of San Angelo, has been arrested for Burglary of a Habitation Intend other Felonies.
Whitfield's alleged boyfriend, Mason Taylor was arrested on October 1, 2024, and charged with Murder.
According to court documents, San Angelo police were dispatched to the 1500 block of South David Street regarding a shooting victim at 8:04 a.m. on October 1, 2024. Once officers arrived, they located the victim, 23-year-old Hunter Seth Joyner, in a bedroom of the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and leg.
After police secured the scene there were two subjects at the residence, the victim’s girlfriend and her mother. It was learned that Joyner and his girlfriend had been involved in a domestic dispute on September 30, 2024. The girlfriend spoke to her brother, Mason Taylor, on the phone after the dispute and he sounded very upset.
Taylor, the victim’s girlfriend, and the victim’s girlfriend’s mother formulated a plan to go to the residence on October 1, 2024, and possibly start the eviction process on Joyner.
In the early morning on October 1, the two women decided it was best if Taylor did not accompany them to the house and they tried to arrive prior to Taylor showing up.
The two women arrived at the residence and unlocked the front door when they saw Taylor walking towards the back of the residence. He had a handgun pointed toward the ground. The victim’s girlfriend asked Taylor repeatedly what he did but he would not respond.
The victim’s girlfriend then saw Whitfield who appeared to be in shock. Both Taylor and Whitfield left prior to San Angelo police arriving on scene.
The victim’s girlfriend then walked into the bedroom and found Joyner unresponsive with at least one gunshot wound to the chest on the bed. Both she and her mother pulled him from the bed and attempted to provide medical care then called 911.
Joyner was transported to Shannon Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
At the residence, a detective stated that it appeared Taylor had shot out the back glass door to enter the residence. Joyner was likely in bed at the time of the shooting. Spent bullet cartridges were also found on the bed and at the foot of the bed.
The investigator has probable cause to believe that Whitfield entered the residence without consent and participated in the incident that resulted in the death of Joyner.
Whifield was arrested on October 1, 2024, charged with Burglary of a Habitation Intend Other Felonies, and is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.
