Suspect Arrested After Five-Hour Standoff in Abilene

 

ABILENE, TX – A 32-year-old man was taken into custody following a five-hour standoff with Abilene police on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Officers responded to a disturbance call at 4:40 p.m. in the 5300 block of Taos Drive in southeast Abilene. According to police, a woman reported that a man had been involved in an altercation with her and refused to return her property. She told officers she feared for her safety. After police arrived, the woman and another male exited the house and were placed in protective custody, but the suspect refused to leave the home.

Police SWAT, Street Crimes, Patrol units, and negotiators were dispatched to the scene in an attempt to persuade the suspect to surrender peacefully.

The suspect, identified as Alexander Louis Acosta, was found hiding in the attic of the home. He was wanted on warrants for Driving While Intoxicated, a Class B Possession of Marijuana charge out of Taylor County, and an Assault Family Violence warrant from Austin, Texas. Acosta was taken into custody without further incident around 10 p.m.

No injuries were reported during the standoff.
