Details Released on Third Walmart Lottery Theft Suspect

SAN ANGELO, TX— Details on the third suspect in the Walmart lottery theft have been revealed.

Zkel Grant, 21, of San Angelo, was arrested on August 7, 2024, for Theft of Property greater than $30K but less than $150K after he allegedly stole just over $75,000 from Walmart in a large-scale theft scheme.

According to court documents, on July 30, 2024, the investigator in the case was notified by a Walmart "Global Investigator" that Walmart was investigating lottery fraud. The investigator was informed by Walmart that the defendant, Grant, would create fraudulent lottery winning and taking cash from the register.

The fraudulent transactions were between the amounts of $10.00 and $1500.00. The Walmart investigator said that these transactions mainly involved removing money from the register and later pocketing the money. Some of the transactions were legitimate winnings but Grant would key in a different dollar amount at the Walmart register.

In some instances, Grant would take a winning lottery ticket from customers and not scan it in the lottery terminal, then keep the money after paying the customer. On February 18, 2024, a legitimate customer had lottery winnings of $110 but Grant allegedly keyed in $310, for a loss of $200, then pocketed the amount.

Grant had Operator #71 assigned to only him. Co-defendants Carmelo Amigleo was Operator #52 and Ryan Munoz was Operator #55. Walmart CCTV footage showed Grant, Amigleo, and Munoz completing fraudulent lottery transactions, and on some occasions, working together to perform these transactions.

Walmart told the investigator the fraudulent transactions done by Grant were between February 18, 2024, and April 28, 2024, where he allegedly stole $76,165.41. Walmart also said this amount was only what was calculated within the provided time frame.

Grant was a current employee of Walmart assigned to the Walmart located at 1853 Sherwood Way but had left his position on April 29, 2024, to pursue other job opportunities.

On August 2, 2024, one of the co-defendants spoke with the investigator in a non-custodial interview and said that Grant taught him the lottery fraud scheme to steal money from Walmart and he watched Grant on several occasions take money from the Walmart register after completing fraudulent lottery transactions.

Grant has been arrested and is currently an inmate in the Tom Green County Jail being held on a $350,000 bond. Both Amigleo and Munoz were arrested and have since been released.
