Lubbock Police Seek Public’s Help to Find Mother of Baby Found in Dumpster

LUBBOCK, TX – The Lubbock Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the mother of a newborn baby found in an East Lubbock dumpster over a week ago.

At a news conference today, Police Chief Seth Herman said that “any option that you can think of that we could traverse and delve into to identify the mother has been done."

“We are asking for the public’s help because we are now at a point where we need assistance," he said.

The baby is “safe and in good health” and is in the care of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, according to Herman.

It was also reported that this all began around 4 a.m. July 20 when officers were called to the 2700 block of East Third Street after a man reported finding a newborn boy in a bag in a dumpster, covered in blood. 

The baby was transported to a local hospital by EMS, and Child Protective Services was notified.

Chief Herman also reminded the public that any mother in crisis wishing to surrender her baby safely can do so without facing questions at the following locations:

• Baby Box at Fire Station 9
• Any EMS location
• Any Lubbock Fire Station
• South Plains Mall
