San Angelo Man Dies While Hiking at Grand Canyon

 

GRAND CANYON, AZ. – A 50-year-old hiker from San Angelo, Texas, was pronounced dead on July 7 after collapsing on the Bright Angel Trail within the Grand Canyon National Park. 

This happened around 2 p.m., about 100 feet below the Bright Angel Trailhead.

According to information from the National Park Service, bystanders initiated CPR after discovering the unresponsive hiker. 

Xanterra Fire and Security and National Park Service (NPS) medical personnel responded from the rim, but all resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.

It was reported that the hiker had been attempting to reach the rim following an overnight stay at Havasupai Gardens.

The National Park Service, in coordination with the Coconino County Medical Examiner, is investigating the incident. No further information is available at this time.
