SAN ANGELO, TX — On June 11, police activity was observed around 10 a.m. in the 1000 block of E. 21st St., in front of a residence. Since then, the San Angelo police have remained silent on the incident. For about a week, the mother of one of the victims has been contacting us, seeking information about what happened, believing her daughter was killed in the incident.
This afternoon, I informed Police Chief Travis Griffith about the situation and the mother's inquiries, prompting him to look into the matter. Here is the information the police have released regarding the incident:
The initial call was for a welfare check. Upon arrival, it became clear that this was more than a routine welfare check, leading the police to make a forceful entry into the residence.
Inside, the police discovered two deceased individuals: a man and a woman. Preliminary investigations suggest that this was a murder-suicide.
The victims were identified as Clinton Willie Francis, Jr., 72, and Maneshia Clark, 29, both from San Angelo. The investigation determined that Clark fatally shot Francis before taking her own life.
The San Angelo Police Department extended its deepest condolences to the families and friends affected by this tragedy.
While we may never fully understand why Maneshia Clark took such actions, domestic disputes account for about 50 percent of police calls for service.
