SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo man was indicted for kidnapping a woman at Zips Car Wash.
Hector Lopez, 39, of San Angelo, has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for Aggravated Kidnapping Causing Bodily Injury.
According to court documents, on January 11, 2024, San Angelo police responded to Zips Carwash around 12:15 p.m. regarding a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived on scene and was in the process of speaking with the victim when the defendant, identified as Lopez, suddenly fled the scene. A search for Lopez was conducted but there was no successful detention.
The investigator assigned to the case began to work and had worked on similar cases with Lopez involving the same victim, including similar aggressive, violent, and threatening behavior.
A witness from the scene was contacted and said that the victim was forced into the vehicle and that she was terrified and screaming. Security footage was provided from Zips that showed the victim, Lopez, and other people reacting to the scene and incident.
The victim’s written statement said that Lopez walked up to her, took her phone, and demanded she drive him somewhere. When the victim refused, Lopez grabbed her and forced her into the vehicle.
The investigator knew from previous dealings that this is common with Lopez.
Lopez was arrested on February 7, 2024, and is currently an inmate in the Tom Green County Jail being held on a $250,000 bond.
