Police Draw Weapons on San Angelo Man who Threatened Them with a Knife

SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo man was arrested after threatening a police officer with a knife.

Norman Harris, 48, of San Angelo, has been arrested for aggravated assault against a public servant, arson, evading arrest, and interfering with public duties.

According to court documents, on June 12, 2024, at 9:50 a.m., a San Angelo police officer was dispatched to an area near Northwest Drive and Arden Road regarding a grass fire call. When the officer arrived on the scene, he was led to the tree line behind Vistas at Red Creek, located at 5751 Green Hill Road.

The officer was attempting to investigate a fire and could see smoke from behind a brush area. As he walked towards the fire, he encountered the suspect, identified as Harris, nearby. Harris had a knife in his left hand and was verbally aggressive towards the officer.

The officer unholstered his duty-issued firearm and pointed it toward Harris and issued verbal commands to him to drop the knife. As the officer was telling Harris to drop the knife, he began walking towards the officer, still displaying the knife.

Harris transitioned the knife to his right hand and raised it toward the officer in an aggressive and threatening manner. In an attempt to de-escalate the situation, the officer backed away and continued to tell him to put the knife down.

Harris disregarded the officer’s commands and said to him, “You’re going to have to f***ing kill me!” several times. He then walked away from the officer and then re-engaged him. Harris walked toward him with the knife as he threatened him within close proximity.

Then, Harris evaded the officer but was eventually taken into custody.

Harris was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on June 12, 2024, and is currently an inmate being held on $80,152 bond.
