The Text Messages That Landed the Wall Band Director in Jail

SAN ANGELO, TX — Text messages between an underaged female students at Wall ISD and the assistant band director, Joshua Carroll, have been released. These messages are graphic and reader discretion is advised.

Joshua Carroll, 33, was arrested twice this week for Online Solicitation of a Minor after he allegedly used TikTok and a text messaging VOIP app called "Text Now" to send, receive, and ask for images to and from underaged female students. The second arrest by the U.S. Attorney in Abilene meant the charges for his activities were elevated to federal offenses.

Several text messages allegedly sent between Carroll and a student were summarized for the courts by Tom Green County Sheriff's Office investigators. Read them below:

Suspect (Carroll): Said to the student that she is gorgeous.

Suspect (Carroll): "I'm just sad I can't have you"

Suspect (Carroll): "But I'm not asking you to be naked or to come over and let me sleep with you" and "I wasn't asking for t*ts or p***y though."

Suspect (Carroll): "Is that why you don't want to do anything sexual because you haven't found someone to be comfortable with to do it"

Suspect (Carroll): 'You can still wait until marriage, we can still do other things. Not even sexting or sending pics? You'd still be able to wait until marriage."

Q. Unnamed Student (Jane Doe 2): "Quick question why do you enjoy sexting?"

A. Suspect (Carroll): "Well you won't enjoy it at all if you don't [touch] yourself" and "or seeing pics of each other is fun."

Suspect (Carroll): "Having a girl [touch] herself on FaceTime as I'm stroking my massive c**k! it feels amazing" and "Plus they like imagining how big it is and imagine it inside them."

Carroll also allegedly send another underaged student, Jane Doe 1, a picture of his private parts where Carroll appeared to be in the shower and exposing his genitals to the camera. For investigators, she described his genitals to investigators using her hand.

During the sheriff's detective's interview with Carroll, he allegedly admitted to sending the photo to Jane Doe 1 in addition to sending sexually charged text messages to girls for the "last couple years". Carroll also said he sent the same picture he sent to Jane Doe 1 to other girls.

Carroll also said that some girls had sent him back sexually explicit photographs. Investigators said Carroll told them he wished the investigators had arrested him earlier and admitted that his problem was spiraling out of control.

Carroll was first arrested on May 14, 2024, for Online Solicitation of a Minor, and was released on $45,000 bond. Then, the next day and while out of jail on bond, he was arrested again by US Marshals, this time on federal charges. He has been in jail since.

Carroll worked at Wall ISD as an assistant band director and had previous jobs at Big Spring High School and Brownwood High School according to his Facebook page.

Yesterday, a federal magistrate judge ordered Carroll jailed until his trial. The judge also ordered a court-appointed defense counsel to represent him.

Parents have asked us to provide more detail of how Carroll was approaching these children so they can gain awareness of how their children could be victimized, aiding their ability to defend their familes.
