Woman Indicted for Homicide in Horrific Fatal Crash

SAN ANGELO— The woman who was driving one of the vehicles in the fatal crash north of Grape Creek in July of 2023 has been indicted for her part in the death of her daughter.

Morgan Palmour, 27, was indicted for Criminally Negligent Homicide for improperly securing her daughter, Mazlynn Leech, in her child safety seat and driving significantly slower than the speed limit.

The tragic incident unfolded on July 17, 2023, as Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to reports of a rollover crash along US 87 North around 2:15 p.m.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered a chaotic scene where a 2011 Ford Edge, a 2008 Johnny Pag Motorcycle, and a Freightliner Truck towing a trailer had all overturned following a high-speed collision.

Emergency response teams, including ambulances and Shannon’s AirMed1, rushed to the site to aid the passengers and drivers involved. Among the injured were the driver of the semitruck, identified as 58-year-old Jose Sanchez, and the motorcyclist, 23-year-old James Palmour. Both were transported to Shannon Medical Center with injuries not deemed incapacitating. Notably, Palmour had been riding without a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Ford Edge carried several individuals who sustained injuries in the accident. The driver, identified as the defendant, 26-year-old Morgan Palmour, was also taken to Shannon Medical Center with injuries not considered incapacitating. Tragically, Palmour's two young children, aged four and two, were inadequately secured in the vehicle. The four-year-old was transported to Shannon with non-incapacitating injuries, while the two-year-old, identified as Mazlynn Leech, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing, with authorities likely to pursue legal actions related to the incident.
