SAN ANGELO, TX — A routine traffic stop resulted in a foot pursuit and the arrest of a fugitive wanted for warrants and possession of a controlled substance, authorities said Tuesday.
At 12:32 p.m. on April 11, 2024, a Tom Green County Sheriff's Office Patrol Deputy spotted a vehicle traveling northbound on Martin Luther King Drive without a registration sticker. The Deputy initiated a traffic stop near Barton Street and East 29th Street.
During the stop, the passenger, identified as Cory Underhill, 48, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
A perimeter was established, and Underhill was apprehended attempting to conceal himself in a nearby residence. The San Angelo Police Department assisted with the apprehension.
Underhill was wanted on an active felony warrant from Upton County for Evading Arrest with Vehicle. He also had a previous conviction for Evading Arrest on foot.
Deputies recovered discarded clothing from Underhill during the foot pursuit in a shed near a residence. Approximately 4.56 grams of Methamphetamine were found near the clothing, which Underhill later admitted to attempting to conceal.
Underhill was subsequently booked into the Tom Green County Jail on charges including Evading Arrest Detention with Previous Conviction (State Jail Felony), Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 (2nd Degree Felony) for possession of methamphetamine, and the Upton County Warrant for Evading Arrest with a Vehicle.
