Murder Defendant Allegedly Yelled 'F*cking F*gg*ts!' at Victims Before Fatal Bar Fight

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Several witnesses who were at the fatal fight at Whiskey River Saloon in San Angelo in 2022 began taking the  stand for the prosecution Monday in the Tom Green County Courthouse including one of the stabbing victims and the girlfriend of the Marine who was killed. 

Col Hunsberger testified he was one of the four military members who got on the dance floor at Whiskey River and were having fun dancing to 'Cumbia' music while there was no one on the dance floor.  At some point, the dance floor got crowded and one of them bumped into the defendant Ray Vera.  They attempted to apologize but Vera kept arguing. Col Hunsberger said Vera called them "F*cking F*gg*ts," because the four guys were dancing together.  

Hunsberger testified that at one point, Vera's wife engaged in the argument with them.  

The argument turned into a fistfight on the dance floor with several of Vera's friends punching the military men.  The Whiskey River security guard broke up the fight and told them all to leave.  

Hunsberger testified that they were trying to leave when one of the suspects hit Hunsberger over the head with a glass beer mug. The melee broke out with several of Vera's friends fighting the four military men. 

According to the video and testimony, Vera pulled a switchblade knife and stabbed four of the military members killing Bryce Rudisell.
