Knife-Wielding Woman Arrested for Attacking Ex in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO (AP) — Jessica Yanez, 26, hailing from Big Spring, found herself in custody following an altercation that led to her arrest by the San Angelo Police Department on charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon after allegedly wielding a knife against a man.

Officers responded to a disturbance call in the 2000 block of Vaughn Street, encountering a chaotic scene involving Yanez, her father, her ex-boyfriend, and two other men in the vicinity of a parking lot. The victim exhibited visible injuries and blood, prompting officers to intervene and separate the parties involved.

According to the arrest affidavit, the victim, her ex, who had been in a dating relationship with Yanez, had received text messages from her indicating she was en route from Big Spring to retrieve their child. Despite the victim's reluctance to engage, Yanez persisted in seeking confrontation.

Eyewitnesses reported Yanez damaging a vehicle and approaching her ex with a menacing black and blue folding knife as he retreated upstairs. The assault ensued, with Yanez continuing to pursue the victim into his apartment, where she allegedly continued the attack.

The man managed to disarm Yanez during the struggle, but she persisted in assaulting him. Yanez was overheard by an officer admitting to forcibly entering the victim's apartment and possessing a knife.

The ex expressed fear that had he not disarmed Yanez, he could have been stabbed.

Yanez was apprehended on March 29, 2024, and is presently detained on a $60,000 bond.
