SAN ANGELO — Ryan Renfro, 33, of San Angelo, has been formally charged with Murder by a Tom Green County grand jury for the shooting death of Jakob Andrew Jones on New Year's Day outside Fat Boss Pub.
According to court documents, on January 1, 2024, San Angelo Police responded to reports of a shooting in the alleyway directly north of Fat Boss Pub, situated at 114 South Chadbourne Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered Jones deceased on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds to the head/face area.
Renfro, identified as the suspect, surrendered at the scene without resistance. A handgun was found in Renfro's truck parked nearby, with spent cartridges lying on the ground near the victim.
Renfro's wife, who was working at Fat Boss Pub at the time, reported hearing gunshots and was informed by security that her husband had been involved in a shooting outside. She attempted to administer first aid to Jones but was unsuccessful.
An investigation revealed that prior to the shooting, Jones, accompanied by friends, had arranged to meet Renfro near the pub to settle a dispute stemming from a previous road rage incident. Renfro claimed he intended to engage in a one-on-one fight with Jones but allegedly shot him in self-defense after Jones assaulted him and threatened him with a blade.
Security camera footage from First Methodist Church captured the moments leading up to the shooting, corroborating the sequence of events described by witnesses.
Renfro was arrested on January 1, 2024, and has been held at Tom Green County Jail on a $750,000 bond. He appeared for a bond hearing on April 17, 2024.
The case is ongoing, with Renfro awaiting trial for the murder charge.
