AUSTIN - The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has escalated efforts to track down two notorious fugitives, Jesse Vega and Marcos Alonzo, by adding them to their respective most-wanted lists.
Vega, 37, hailing from San Antonio, has been on the run since September 2023, evading authorities for a parole violation. A member of the Tango Orejon gang, Vega's criminal record is stained with convictions for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2005, which landed him a two-year stint in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) facility. His troubles continued in 2009 with an aggravated robbery conviction, resulting in a 25-year sentence in a TDCJ prison. Despite being released on parole in May 2023, Vega's criminal pursuits persist, prompting the offering of a $5,000 cash reward for information leading to his arrest.
Standing at 5 feet 6 inches and weighing around 215 pounds, Vega's body serves as a canvas for tattoos, adorning various parts from head to hand. The public is urged to remain vigilant, and any pertinent information should be reported to authorities immediately.
In a separate case, Marcos Alonzo, 46, from Hutchins, has been eluding law enforcement since February 2023, owing to his failure to adhere to sex offender registration requirements. Alonzo's criminal history is punctuated by a 2005 conviction for indecency with a child by contact, for which he served a five-year term in a TDCJ prison. Subsequently, in 2011, Alonzo found himself behind bars again for three years for failing to register as a sex offender. With a $3,000 cash reward on the table for information resulting in his arrest, authorities are urging the public's cooperation.
Described as 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing approximately 250 pounds, Alonzo, too, is marked by tattoos across his head, neck, chest, and arms. Citizens are advised to exercise caution and report any sightings or relevant details promptly.
Funded by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division, Texas Crime Stoppers promises cash rewards for tips leading to the capture of the state's 10 most-wanted fugitives or sex offenders. In 2023, collaborative efforts between DPS and other agencies yielded the arrest of 47 individuals, among them 23 sex offenders and 12 gang members, with $111,500 awarded in rewards for actionable tips.
To qualify for cash rewards, tipsters must relay information to authorities via one of three channels: the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477), the DPS website's web tip submission feature, or by submitting a Facebook tip through the designated link. Regardless of the method chosen, anonymity is guaranteed, with tipsters assigned a unique tip number for reference.
DPS investigators, in tandem with local law enforcement, carefully curate the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders lists, which are readily accessible to the public for reference. However, citizens are strongly advised against attempting to apprehend these fugitives, as they are deemed armed and dangerous.
