EDEN, TX — The Concho County Sheriff’s Office has launched a frantic search for an armed couple who evaded a traffic stop on US 87 northwest of Eden late Sunday night. The duo, suspected of hijacking a pickup in Anson earlier that same day, were initially believed to be headed for West Monroe, Louisiana.
A Concho County Deputy initiated the traffic stop around 11 p.m. Sunday night due to speeding, with the pickup reportedly clocked at speeds exceeding 90 mph. Sheriff Chad Miller confirmed the rapid acceleration upon interception. However, as the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver accelerated, sparking a dramatic pursuit across Concho County.
The pursuit wound through county roads and pastures until the pickup eventually became inoperable, resulting in a crash. Seizing the opportunity, the fleeing couple abandoned the vehicle in a cow pasture. However, their escape plan didn’t end there. A stolen Suzuki motorcycle found in the truck's bed provided them with another means of evasion.
Sheriff Miller revealed that the motorcycle had been reported stolen in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Mounted on the bike, the couple managed to evade authorities, even breaching local rancher Craig Pfluger’s property. Pfluger, armed and alerted to the situation, described how the couple repeatedly cut through his fences in their desperate flight.
The couple reportedly left a pipe used for smoking drugs harder than marijuana so we are unsure if the stock image above perfectly represents the fugitives on the run near Eden.
By 4 p.m., the couple's motorcycle had run out of gas, prompting deputies to recover it. With the motorcycle out of commission, the fugitives are now believed to be on foot. Sheriff Miller has deployed a K9 team and enlisted the aid of constables from Menard County to search the Live Oak Subdivision south of Eden towards the Concho-Menard County line. Residents are urged not to approach the suspects but to immediately contact 9-1-1 with their whereabouts.
Descriptions of the suspects indicate that both are Caucasian, with the man wearing a floppy fishing hat and the woman donning a heavy black coat.
Meanwhile, in Anson, reports suggest that a Good Samaritan encountered the couple with the stranded motorcycle and offered assistance. However, this act of kindness ended in theft, as the couple allegedly stole the Samaritan's pickup along with all its contents, including a handgun.
