Troopers Seize 21 Pounds of Cocaine in Traffic Stop Saturday

 

PANHANDLE, TX — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) executed a successful drug bust in Carson County near Amarillo, seizing more than 21 pounds of suspected cocaine during a routine traffic stop on Saturday, February 3, at 3:08 p.m.

A DPS Trooper stopped a 2014 Dodge Ram, traveling east on I-40 near Groom, for a traffic violation. During the stop, the Trooper discovered eight plastic-wrapped bundles of suspected cocaine.

DPS Special Agents and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agents were engaged in the operation, with DEA ultimately taking over the case. The arrested individual, 22-year-old Ryan Reyes of Phoenix, Arizona, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and booked into the Randall County Jail.

The seized drugs, with an undisclosed street value, were reportedly in transit from Phoenix, Arizona, to New York. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to uncover further details about the drug trafficking operation and its potential impact. The successful collaboration between state and federal agencies underscores the commitment to curbing illegal drug activities and ensuring community safety.
