EL PASO, Texas — The U.S. Border Patrol in the El Paso Sector verified the apprehension of a designated "Se Busca Información" target over the weekend following information provided to the tip-line.
On December 31, the Chihuahua State Attorney General's Office (FGE) confirmed the arrest of "EP1," a 39-year-old Mexican national also known as "El Pitufo." Gallegos, the individual in question, was intercepted in Torreon, Coahuila, with collaboration from Coahuila FGE and various Mexican law enforcement bodies. Notably, Gallegos possesses an extensive criminal record, including charges of aggravated homicide.
This marks the third arrest made from the ongoing "Se Busca Información" target list. To date, five criminals have been detained due to information provided via the tip line since its inception in late October.
The "Se Busca Información" initiative, meaning 'to look for information' in English, identifies ten individuals linked to transnational criminal organizations. These individuals are wanted for various offenses recognized by both U.S. and Mexican law enforcement agencies, encompassing crimes such as human smuggling, narcotics, weapons trafficking, and murder.
A collaborative bi-national endeavor between the United States and Mexico, the "Se Busca Información" initiative encourages citizens on either side of the border to anonymously report information about wanted criminals. The primary objective is to disrupt and displace members of criminal organizations posing threats to communities on both sides of the border. Individuals with pertinent information about the targets can confidentially report to law enforcement at 915-314-8194.
Moreover, the public can relay information via the 'WhatsApp' application. The phone lines remain accessible 24/7 and connect directly to El Paso Sector Border Patrol call centers.
Chief Patrol Agent Anthony "Scott" Good of the U.S. Border Patrol's El Paso Sector expressed gratitude for the vital role played by citizens from both sides of the border community. He emphasized that the success of the "Se Busca" campaign owes greatly to the bi-national law enforcement cooperation. This collaboration underscores the commitment to fostering a safer and more secure border region.
"We deeply value our partnership with the Government of Mexico and officials from Chihuahua state. Our commitment remains steadfast in working alongside our Mexican counterparts to ensure these wanted criminals face justice," Chief Patrol Agent Good stated.
