Sheriff Identifies the Dead in Wake of Horrific Murder-Suicide in Carlsbad

 

CARLSBAD, TX — In a tragic turn of events in Carlsbad, a domestic dispute escalated into a fatal shooting, leaving a couple dead and a community in shock. On Friday, December 22, sheriff's deputies, DPS State Troopers, and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to a residence in the 11000 block of Texas Oak Road following reports of a shooting. Initially, details were sparse, but it was soon confirmed that there were two victims.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered Michelle Gonzales, 52, and her husband Randy Gonzales, 58, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Michelle was pronounced dead at the scene, while Randy was transported to Shannon Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office took charge of the investigation, revealing a harrowing sequence of events. Around 12:15 p.m., Randy Gonzales had confronted his wife Michelle and a third person at their residence over a personal matter. The confrontation quickly escalated, with Randy firing at the third person, who managed to escape unharmed. In a devastating turn, Randy then shot his wife before turning the gun on himself.

The incident has left the Carlsbad community reeling, with neighbors and local residents struggling to come to terms with the sudden violence. The Sheriff's Office has assured the public that there is no ongoing threat related to this incident and is committed to uncovering all the facts surrounding this tragic event.

Autopsies for both victims are scheduled for Tuesday, December 26, 2023, in Lubbock, as part of the ongoing murder/suicide investigation.
