SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo man has been sentenced for attacking three women, kidnapping them and shooting one three years ago.
Dwayne Evans, 35, also known as “Little D”, of San Angelo, has taken a plea deal for two counts of Aggravated Kidnapping and one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon after taking three women hostage, making them drive around San Angelo at gunpoint, and eventually, shooting one of the women.
According to court documents, on November 9, 2021, a Tom Green County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted interviews with three women and the defendant, identified as Evans, and found out Evans and one of the women were in a romantic relationship together.
During the morning of November 9, 2021, Evans and the victim descended into a heated argument. Two other individuals showed up to the residence, which was located on the 2200 block of West Twohig Avenue to see if they could help the situation and defuse the argument.
Once the two people made it into the house, Evans grabbed a handgun and pointed it at the three women. Then, he held them there against their will, going as far as to discharge the weapon at their feet.
After not allowing them to leave, he forced all three into a vehicle and with the gun pointed right in the back of the woman he was arguing with. Evans then forced them to drive towards Highway 87. Evans threatened the women several times, saying “You’re going to die today.”.
The tense situation turned further south as Evans would not allow them to leave or stop the vehicle. Then, in a brave act, the woman that Evans was arguing with grabbed at the gun and both of them struggled to gain control of it.
The hostages were approaching the intersection of Apache Trail and US Highway 87. In an insane move, Evans discharged the gun again. The bullet struck the victim, and the driver stopped the car on Apache Lane. Then, the driver got out and called for the other woman who showed up to help break up that morning’s argument to do the same. Evans then jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off.
Law enforcement met with the victim at Shannon Medical Center where Evans eventually took her. The victim refused to implicate anyone and was treated for two gunshot wounds to her right leg. Evans also refused to meet with the investigator to discuss what had happened.
Evans was arrested on November 9, 2021, and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and three counts of Aggravated Kidnapping. He has remained in jail since his arrest date.
Evans was indicted in January 2022 and now, sentenced to five-years on count one of Aggravated Kidnapping, five-years on count two of Aggravated Kidnapping, and two-years on count three, the Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon for a total of 12 years.
