AUSTIN, TX - Austin Independent School District officials reported the arrest of Isaiah Xavier Smith on charges of indecency with a child.
Smith, who served as a college readiness tutor at Akins High School between September and October this semester, was restricted from campus access on October 25 following allegations made by a high school student to a school police officer.
According to an arrest affidavit, the student informed authorities that Smith sexually assaulted them during a tutoring session at the school.
The affidavit also mentioned instances where Smith purportedly offered to buy shoes, underwear, and provide money to the student.
Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools Dr. Angel Wilson expressed the district's commitment to investigating the incident and implementing measures to prevent such occurrences in the future in a letter addressed to parents.
When questioned about the company Smith was associated with during his tenure as a tutor at Akins High School and whether he tutored at other district campuses, district officials have yet to provide responses to these inquiries.
Reports indicated Smith was previously observed near the Austin Public Library and various schools while carrying a long rifle.
Under Texas law, individuals are permitted to openly carry handguns, long guns, shotguns, and rifles in public without a permit, clarified Emily Taylor, a criminal defense attorney specializing in firearms and self-defense law.
