Border Patrol Shuts Down Checkpoints in Texas,Arizona Amid Immigrant Surge

EAGLE PASS, TX – A continued surge in illegal immigration in Texas and Arizona has forced the Border Patrol to shut down vehicle processing at two International Border Crossing points.  The CBP issued the following statement Monday:

"The United States continues to experience heightened levels of encounters with migrants at the Southwest Border, driven by smugglers disseminating misinformation to exploit vulnerable individuals and promote migration. As authorities deploy extra resources and impose penalties for illegal entry, migration patterns also undergo changes. Operational plans are being continuously adjusted to enhance enforcement efforts against noncitizens who bypass lawful pathways or processes like CBP One™.

Starting at 3 p.m. local time, the Customs and Border Protection's Office of Field Operations will temporarily halt vehicle processing operations at Eagle Pass International Bridge 1 in Eagle Pass, Texas. Additionally, at 2 p.m. local time, vehicle processing will be scaled back in Lukeville, Arizona, to redirect personnel and aid the U.S. Border Patrol in apprehending migrants.

Responding to this surge in encounters, all feasible resources will be deployed to promptly and safely manage migrant processing. Stricter consequences will be applied to those lacking legal grounds to stay in the United States. CBP will maintain its focus on prioritizing border security measures as needed to address this evolving scenario."
