San Angelo Woman Indicted for Abusing a Company Debit Card

 

SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo woman has been indicted for using her employers company credit card to make personal purchases worth over $100,000.

Paulina Q Meza, 32, was indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury on one count of Theft of Property Equal to or Greater than $30,000 but less than $150,000.

According to court documents, on September 5, 2023, the owner of U.S. Tex Fence Construction & Ranch Services LLC claimed that Meza used a company credit card to make several thousand dollars worth of purchases and cash withdrawals using a Citizens State Bank account that was designed for company business.

The owner alleges that Meza was the only individual with access to the company Mastercard debit card ending with 0938. Meza was also aware of what was authorized purchases when using the debit card, the protocols of turning in receipts, and logging the purchases that were made.

Meza allegedly was using the card for personal purchases and cash withdrawals. The owner made it clear that he was going to pursue criminal charges against Meza.

Bank statements from Citizens State Bank from December 30, 2022, through August 9, 2023 showed a cash withdrawal made at the same time as the personal purchases. There were numerous wire transfers using the company card. Dates and times were verified on the bank statements that were provided by the owner.

Security footage provided by Citizens State Bank showed the Meza using the ATM for transactions. The total amount of unauthorized charges made by Meza using the Tex U.S. Fence Construction & Ranch Services LLC bank card were $131,401.60 from January 1, 2023, until August 8, 2023.

Meza was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on November 5, 2023, and was released the next day on $100,000 bond. She is next due in court for post indictment reporting on December 13, 2023.
