SAN ANGELO— A New Mexico man has been taken a plea deal in San Angelo for charges stemming from an incident where he beat his girlfriend's dog unconscious.
Damont Williams, 32, took a plea deal for Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals and Assault of a Household Member.
According to court documents, on September 29, 2019, at 9:09 a.m., San Angelo police officers were dispatched to the 1000 bock of Rio Concho Circle to an apartment regarding an assault call.
Upon arrival, the victim of the assault was located along with the injured and unconscious dog. The dog was taken to Southside Animal Hospital for emergency treatment. The victim of the assault then informed officers that the defendant, identified as Williams, threw the dog to the ground. The dog was located on the sidewalk and was found to have blood in its urine and had to be medicated due to the pain.
Williams was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on September 29, 2019, and was released on bond on October 29, 2019.
In exchange for the guilty plea, Williams has been given six years probation and, should he break probation, could go to prison.
