San Angelo Man Sentenced for Trying to Kill his Ex-Girlfriend

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – A man who tried to shoot his ex-girlfriend was given a lengthy probation on Thursday following a guilty plea.

According to court documents, on Oct. 19, 2023, Roy Perez, 28, of San Angelo, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. In exchange for the guilty plea, Perez was sentenced to 7 years of probation and a $2,500 fine. As an additional condition to the deal, Perez will have to take substance abuse courses.

The assault occurred back in Nov. 2021. At the time, San Angelo Police responded to a shots-fired call on the 800 block of E. 36th St. Once on the scene, police quickly learned that Perez had fired a single 9mm shot at his ex-girlfriend.

On the scene, police recovered the weapon, a spent casing, and the bullet fragment in the wall of the home. The victim told police that the bullet nearly struck her, and a witness confirmed Perez aimed the gun at the woman.

At the time of his original arrest, Perez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief, driving the wrong way on a one-way, and a violation of a promise to appear. He spent nine days in jail before posting a $41,000 surety bond. Since then, Perez was arrested for assaulting a family member and causing bodily injury. This offense occurred on Sep. 12, 2023. Perez spent seven days in jail for this charge before posting a $7,500 surety bond on Sep. 19, 2023."

He sounds like such a nice guy. 2500.00 and probation, I feel sure he will never try to murder anyone else.
